- 01Part of the beauty of pottery is that every piece is completely unique. Because ceramics go through multiple stages of drying, glazing, and high temperature firing, we cannot guarantee the exact color, finish, or final appearance of your piece.Glazes can react differently during firing and may result in variations in color, texture, coverage, or pattern. Small imperfections such as glaze movement, pinholes, crazing, color variation, or other firing marks can also naturally occur.Occasionally, pieces may crack, warp, break, or experience other unexpected results during the drying or firing process. While our team takes great care with every piece, these outcomes are sometimes an unavoidable part of working with ceramics. These little surprises are part of what makes handmade pottery so special. No two pieces will ever come out exactly the same, and your finished piece may look different from the glaze samples or what you imagined when you created it.
- 02Pottery goes through several stages after your experience, including drying, glazing, and multiple kiln firings. While we take great care with every piece, cracking, warping, or breakage can occasionally occur during this process.Because handmade pottery naturally carries these risks, Sip and Throw cannot guarantee that every piece will successfully make it through the firing process. We will do our best to notify you if there are any major issues!
- 03Clay naturally shrinks as it dries and is fired at extremely high temperatures. Differences in thickness, trapped air, moisture, attachments, and the overall shape of a piece can all affect how it responds during drying and firing. For the best chance of success, our instructors will guide you toward forms and techniques that work well for the Sip and Throw Experience. We strongly discourage plates and added handles or attachments because these pieces have a higher likelihood of cracking, warping, or breaking.
- 04No. Glaze can be wonderfully unpredictable! Colors may become lighter, darker, more varied, or slightly different from the sample depending on application, clay thickness, placement in the kiln, and the firing process. Our glaze samples are intended as a guide rather than a guarantee of the exact finished color or appearance. These natural variations are part of what makes each handmade piece one of a kind.
- 05After your experience, your piece needs time to fully dry before it can be glazed and fired. The entire process takes between 3 (three) and 4 (four) weeks. We’ll let you know when your pottery is ready for pickup, so please wait until you receive your ready for pickup notification before coming to the studio.Finished pottery must be picked up within 2 (two) weeks of notification. Due to limited studio storage, pieces left beyond this timeframe may be discarded.
- 06Yes! Someone else is welcome to pick up your finished pieces for you. They’ll just need to provide the last name associated with your pieces when they arrive at the studio.
